Severe Sentencing for Reckless Driver in Fes

In a significant ruling delivered by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fes, a driver was sentenced to thirty years in prison for a devastating incident that occurred in Ain Chkef, a suburb of Fes. This harsh penalty comes after the individual was found guilty of serious charges including deliberate murder with premeditation, attempted murder, driving under the influence of alcohol, and causing extensive property damage. The court's decision marks the conclusion of a tragic chapter that rocked the Moulay Yacoub region earlier this year.

The tragic events unfolded on the morning of Sunday, January 4th, when the intoxicated driver recklessly drove a large truck into the courtyard of a hotel and nightclub at high speed. This reckless act led to the deaths of two security guards and left three others with varying degrees of injuries. Additionally, the collision resulted in the destruction of nine vehicles parked in the hotel’s garage. Investigations confirmed that the driver lost complete control of his truck due to alcohol intoxication, transforming the area into a scene of chaos within moments.

The presiding judge, Mohammed Ben Maachou, emphasized the severe nature of the actions committed, considering the high level of human and material losses that ensued. The victims succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them at the University Hospital of Fes. This verdict aims to provide a sense of justice for the victims' families and reinforces the judiciary's commitment to address fatal incidents caused by reckless behavior combined with alcohol consumption, which endangers public safety and property.
