A Simple Signature Could Cause Flight Delays for Minors in Morocco
In Morocco, the lack of a complete parental authorization or power of attorney can prevent minors from boarding flights. This issue has garnered attention from lawmakers, with a recent call for the establishment of legalization offices at airports. Such facilities would enable families to rectify any missing documents discovered just before departure, thus facilitating smoother travel for minors.
This concern predominantly affects children traveling alone, with relatives, or sometimes with only one parent, depending on their circumstances and destination. A duly signed travel authorization or power of attorney may be demanded in these situations. Unfortunately, many families only become aware of these requirements at the time of check-in or security screening. Without the immediate option to legalize the required signature, they risk missing their flights, despite having valid passports and tickets.
Khalid Satti, a parliamentary advisor, has urged the Ministry of the Interior to consider the establishment of permanent legalization and certification offices within Morocco's international airports. These offices would be equipped to urgently process travel authorizations for minors, parental powers of attorney, and other necessary administrative documents related to travel.
The absence of such services not only leads to financial losses but also deprives some travelers of their flights due to a formal requirement that could have been resolved quickly. These proposed offices aim to alleviate the burdens faced by families and ensure that minors can travel without unnecessary complications.
