Accor and Risma to Enhance Moroccan Luxury Hospitality with New Sofitel in 2029

Strengthening Ties for a Prosperous Future in Moroccan Tourism

Accor, the renowned French multinational hospitality company, is poised to deepen its longstanding partnership with Risma, a leader in Morocco's hotel industry, to pave the way for substantial growth within the Kingdom's hospitality sector. This strategic collaboration signals the upcoming launch of a new Sofitel hotel in Tangier by 2029, alongside an extensive modernization of existing facilities and the establishment of a training academy for hospitality professionals.

During a recent visit on April 3, 2026, Accor's CEO, Sébastien Bazin, reaffirmed the company's commitment to Morocco, where it has been operational for over 30 years, managing a portfolio of 43 properties under prestigious brands such as Sofitel, MGallery, and Pullman. The goal of this partnership is to expand Risma's offerings to 28 hotels by 2030, showcasing a robust ambition for growth and development.

Innovative Expansion and Commitment to Excellence

The new Sofitel hotel is set to feature 175 luxurious rooms positioned along the scenic Tangier corniche, offering breathtaking views of the strait. This project is not just about expansion; it also encompasses a comprehensive renovation initiative aimed at revitalizing existing hotel structures and enhancing their service offerings. By focusing on improving the competitiveness of its current portfolio, the partnership aims to elevate Morocco’s status as a premier luxury destination, attracting discerning travelers worldwide.

In addition to the hotel development, Accor and Risma will jointly fund the creation of a Tourism Professions Training Academy, dedicated to fostering local talent and professionalizing future professionals in the hospitality industry. This initiative underscores the partners' focus on human capital development, ensuring that they are equipped to navigate the evolving challenges of the hospitality landscape and enhance Morocco's reputation on the international stage.

"We are particularly proud to reach this new stage in our partnership with Risma. Gérard Pélisson, co-founder of Accor, was a great friend of Morocco, and the Kingdom remains a strategic destination for the Group. We were pioneers here and have built strong ties with leading partners. Today, the strengthening of our collaboration with Risma demonstrates our confidence in the potential of Moroccan tourism," stated Mr. Bazin. On the other hand, Mr. Amine Echcherki, Chairman of Risma, emphasized the significance of their historical relationship with Accor, highlighting that their joint efforts will facilitate a faster and more diversified expansion, particularly through franchising.

This revitalized alliance between Accor and Risma is set to invigorate the Moroccan tourism industry by introducing innovative practices, quality training, and new development opportunities. With the upcoming 2030 World Cup on the horizon, this partnership will undoubtedly contribute to positioning Morocco as an exceptional destination for luxury travel.
