Strategic Meeting on Urban Development in Marrakech
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, accompanied by several key stakeholders, convened a crucial meeting at the headquarters of the region to discuss pressing issues related to urban planning, investment, and infrastructure development within the Marrakech community. Attendees included the President of the Tasseltant municipality, the General Director of the Urban Agency, a representative from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, the Head of the Regional Council of Architects, the President of the Regional Council of Notaries, as well as representatives from various consultancy firms. This gathering served as an important platform for exchanging viewpoints on the challenges facing urban development in the Tasseltant community.
During the meeting, participants voiced their concerns regarding the suspension of building permits, which is a direct consequence of the limited capacity of essential infrastructure and public facilities to keep pace with the rapid population growth and urban expansion in the area. This situation presents significant challenges for water, electricity, and sewage networks, as well as for public amenities linked to essential services. Such constraints have prompted urgent discussions on how to address these pressing issues effectively.
In response to these challenges, the Urban Agency has initiated a review and update of the urban planning design specific to the community. This effort aims to accommodate the spatial transformations occurring in the region while considering the necessities of urban organization and future needs in terms of infrastructure and facilities. The agency's proactive approach is essential for fostering a sustainable urban environment that aligns with the community's growth trajectory.
A series of accompanying technical measures were also agreed upon, including the preparation of zoning regulations and the execution of a comprehensive topographical study of the area. These initiatives are intended to provide the necessary technical data and develop appropriate planning methods that will enhance the connectivity of water, electricity, and sewage systems, ultimately contributing to the improvement of the area and bolstering local development conditions.
These measures will be implemented according to a specific timeline, aimed at creating conducive conditions for revitalizing investment and enhancing the attractiveness of the Tasseltant community. This will be achieved through a balanced approach that ensures urban expansion is matched with the provision of essential infrastructure.
In this context, it was agreed to establish specialized mixed committees comprising various stakeholders. These committees will be entrusted with examining different aspects related to these projects based on their respective areas of expertise, monitoring progress, and coordinating efforts to guarantee the effective implementation of the agreed-upon measures.
