Empowering the Voices of Taounate Residents
Residents of Taounate, along with various local stakeholders, are earnestly calling upon their elected parliamentary representatives to advocate for their interests and amplify their concerns, which have been drowned out by years of frustration and dissatisfaction with their dire circumstances. The ongoing marginalization and exclusion, coupled with deteriorating infrastructure and poor public services, have left the community in a state of despair, unworthy of its rich potential. This urgent call to action is directed particularly towards the six parliamentarians who successfully secured their seats in the local constituencies of Tissa Taounate and the village of Beni Makada, as well as to those originating from Taounate who won positions in other regional and local lists.
The recent legislative elections have resulted in a total of ten parliamentary representatives for the region, six of whom were elected directly from Taounate, while four others hail from the area but won their seats in different regions. These officials bear the responsibility of addressing the pressing issues faced by their constituents, who have suffered under the weight of prolonged neglect, rendering Taounate, despite its abundant resources, one of the least fortunate regions in terms of development.
The Newly Elected Representatives and Their Responsibilities
Among the prominent winners from the Tissa Taounate constituency are Abdullah Bouzidi Idrissi from the Progress and Socialism Party, the region’s longest-serving parliamentarian; Abdul Latif Foyqar from the Authenticity and Modernity Party, who is also the head of the Bouhuda commune; and Mohamed Salasi from the National Rally of Independents, who leads the provincial council. These individuals have a crucial role to play in voicing the concerns of their constituents and addressing the challenges that have plagued Taounate for decades.
In the Beni Makada constituency, Abdul Rahman Al-Masouri from the National Rally of Independents has made his debut in parliament, alongside his colleagues, including the returning parliamentary member, Mufid Al-Tahiri from the Istiqlal Party, and Mohamed Hajira from the PAM party, who also heads the Tamzkanah commune in the Gafsai district. These six parliamentarians are the primary advocates for Taounate, responding to the needs and expectations of voters who entrusted them with their positions in the recent legislative elections.
Additionally, three women candidates from Taounate have emerged victorious in the regional lists of the Fes-Meknes region. They are Halima Zoumi from the Istiqlal Party, Kenza Zaher from the Socialist Union, and Dunya Zaher from the Forces of Progress. These women, alongside other elected representatives such as Fadwa Rajwani, who won a seat in the Souss-Massa region, are also instrumental in representing the voices of Taounate, showcasing the diverse political representation necessary for the advancement of the region.
