África Zavala Prepares for Role in 'Corazón de Marruecos' by Learning Arabic

África Zavala Embraces New Cultural Journey

Actress África Zavala is immersing herself in the Arabic language and Moroccan culture to authentically portray her character in the upcoming telenovela 'Corazón de Marruecos'. Set to premiere in January 2027 on Mexican open television, this captivating series will also feature prominent actors Claudia Álvarez and José Ron alongside Zavala. In her role as Yasmine, Zavala's character is a young woman who escapes an arranged marriage in Morocco, seeking freedom and a fresh start in Mexico.

Zavala has been taking extensive Arabic lessons to understand not only the language but also the nuances of Moroccan traditions, which she believes will enhance her performance. 'Yasmine is very different from me; I am studious and tend to smile a lot, while she embodies a contrasting demeanor. Her voice is softer and has a unique tone,' Zavala shared in a recent interview. She expressed excitement about the learning process, noting that while it initially makes her nervous, it ultimately leads to rewarding experiences.

Exploring Cultural Differences and Love

Upon arriving in Mexico, Yasmine will encounter León Corona, a character portrayed by José Ron, who is the heir to a prestigious jewelry empire. As their relationship develops, they will fall in love, but their romance will be tested by significant cultural differences, particularly regarding perceptions of women. Zavala explained, 'Yasmine fled an arranged marriage in Morocco and came to Mexico City seeking a new destiny and freedom. She arrives without the intention of falling in love, but that is what unfolds.' Through her journey, Yasmine will grapple with the realization that women in Mexico can thrive independently, contrasting with her traditional upbringing. 'In Mexico, love is understood differently, and that will serve as the foundation for the story,' Zavala elaborated.

The telenovela, produced by Rosy Ocampo, promises to be a visually stunning production, with filming locations spanning Mexico, Marrakech, and New York. This ambitious project not only highlights personal transformation and cultural exchange but also addresses serious themes surrounding women's rights and self-empowerment.
