Agadir Celebrates Inauguration of New Cultural, Social, and Sports Facilities

Significant Infrastructure Development in Agadir

On Tuesday, Agadir witnessed the inauguration of several cultural, social, and sports facilities, marking the 27th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI's accession to the throne of his illustrious ancestors. The event was graced by the presence of Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government and President of the Agadir Municipal Council, alongside Saïd Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, as well as Karim Achengli, the President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council. These facilities are part of the Urban Development Program for Agadir 2020-2024, which was launched by His Majesty the King in February 2020, aimed at enhancing the local cultural, social, and sporting offerings for the city's residents.

The delegation inaugurated the Sheikh Maa El Aïnin Cultural Complex located in the El Khyam neighborhood. This complex underwent rehabilitation to provide a suitable space for cultural, artistic, and associative activities, support local initiatives, and enrich the cultural offerings available to local residents and surrounding areas. Additionally, the inauguration of the Amsernate Social Activities Complex took place, constructed over a built area of 950 square meters and a total covered area of 1,500 square meters spread across three levels. This facility includes dedicated spaces for guidance, training, and social activities, catering to various segments of the population and enhancing local social services.

Enhancing Community Services and Sports Opportunities

Furthermore, Mr. Akhannouch inaugurated a social and educational facility in the Riad Salam neighborhood, which combines a women's center and a youth house. Built over an area of 750 square meters with a total covered area of 1,850 square meters across three levels, this facility features spaces aimed at training and supporting women, mentoring youth, and organizing educational and social activities. Another significant addition is the semi-Olympic swimming pool located in the El Wifaq neighborhood of Bensergao. This facility covers approximately 2,300 square meters, along with around 4,000 square meters of outdoor space. The swimming pool includes a 25-meter by 15.5-meter pool equipped with six lanes, accommodating 36 swimmers during training sessions, along with bleachers for 250 spectators. This infrastructure is designed to promote swimming education and practice, particularly benefiting children and youth, while enhancing the sporting offerings in the Bensergao area and providing suitable conditions for training, competitions, and sporting events.

During the inauguration, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch emphasized that the commissioning of these facilities aligns with the ongoing implementation of Agadir's Urban Development Program, in accordance with the Royal Vision that places citizens at the heart of the development process. He highlighted that these achievements reflect a commitment to strengthening local facilities, ensuring their balanced distribution across different neighborhoods, and improving the quality of services offered to the community. Moreover, Mr. Akhannouch noted that these projects aim to provide women, youth, and children with appropriate spaces for engaging in cultural, social, and sporting activities, stressing the importance of effective management and sustainability of the services provided.
