Agadir Ida Outanane: Accelerating Rural Development Initiatives

Agadir Ida Outanane: A Push for Enhanced Rural Infrastructure

The prefecture of Agadir Ida-Outanane is prioritizing the enhancement of basic infrastructure in rural areas, marking it as a key initiative. During field visits conducted throughout the month of Ramadan, local authorities have focused on a clear objective: to diminish territorial disparities and improve access for rural populations to essential services. This strategic focus is anticipated to significantly uplift the living standards in these underserved regions.

Key Areas of Focus: Education, Health, and Infrastructure

In line with this initiative, Saaïd Amzazi, the wali of the Souss-Massa region and governor of Agadir Ida-Outanane, recently visited the commune of Tadrart, accompanied by heads of decentralized services. This visit served to review ongoing projects and outline future actions tailored to meet the local population's needs. A crucial area identified for improvement is educational services, which include plans for increasing the number of preschool units, enhancing school transportation, and establishing a new college within the commune. The aim is to bring educational facilities closer to residents and improve schooling conditions in remote areas.

Health services are also a focal point of this initiative. The introduction of medical contracts and mobile healthcare units is expected to strengthen healthcare provision in these territories. Additionally, ensuring access to potable water is another significant aspect, with plans to connect the commune to the water supply network managed by the regional distribution company.

Local infrastructure improvements are also on the agenda. Two community-based projects are set to be developed, alongside enhancements to both classified and unclassified roads. Furthermore, there are proposals for connecting various douars as part of the national rural road program, and revitalizing the weekly souk is among the actions aimed at bolstering local economic activity.

The wali’s tour continued in the commune of Aziar, where sectoral programs were reviewed regarding education, health, and water supply. Plans are in place to supply hundreds of families from the Moulay Abdellah dam. Discussions also covered the progress of road widening and reinforcement projects, as well as the establishment of unclassified roads included in programs aimed at reducing territorial disparities and improving access, especially in mountainous areas bordering Essaouira province. A program to repair flood damage was also mentioned.

In Aziar, agricultural services are expected to assist various cooperatives, particularly women's groups, in poultry farming and egg production, in addition to supporting young agricultural enterprises. A pilot project involving cactus cultivation over 30 hectares is planned, along with assistance for goat and sheep farming as part of the national livestock restoration program. The development of a central square in the commune was also discussed, recognizing the potential for local tourism development as a complementary growth lever.

Through these initiatives, public authorities aim to leverage rural infrastructure as a means of fostering territorial cohesion. By focusing on education, health, water, roads, and local amenities, the prefecture seeks to create conditions for more balanced regional development.
