Agadir's Urban Redevelopment Initiative
The local development company (SDL) Agadir Souss Massa Aménagement has officially initiated a call for tenders aimed at the urban and landscaping requalification of the area surrounding the Grand Stadium of Agadir. This project is a crucial part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup, showcasing the city's commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and urban landscape to accommodate the upcoming global sporting event.
The tender outlines several technical components designed to revamp the area significantly. Key aspects of the project include the establishment of a large urban park, as well as the renovation of roadways and pedestrian sidewalks, which will improve both aesthetics and functionality within the vicinity of the stadium. In a bid to harmonize with the natural landscape, the project also includes the transplantation of existing trees and palm trees, accompanied by an upgrade of the irrigation system to ensure the sustainability and health of the new green spaces.
Enhancing Safety and Accessibility
Furthermore, the project aims to bolster safety and accessibility in the area through the installation of new public lighting systems and the introduction of appropriate horizontal and vertical road signage. Special accommodations for individuals with reduced mobility will also be implemented, ensuring that the revamped space is inclusive for all visitors. The total estimated cost for these developments is approximately 15.4 million Moroccan Dirhams.
Once the contract is awarded, the selected contractor will have a period of five months to complete all interventions, which includes the construction site setup and the delivery of as-built plans. Notably, the TGCC group had previously secured the first lot for upgrading the Grand Stadium of Agadir in June for just over 1 billion Dirhams, which involves various construction tasks including demolition, structural work, waterproofing, finishes, and painting, to be completed within a 15-month timeframe.
