Agadir Announces Lifting of Shellfish Collection Ban
In a significant announcement made on October 2, 2026, the State Secretariat in charge of Maritime Fisheries declared the lifting of the ban on the collection and marketing of shellfish products from designated shellfish areas in Agadir. The areas affected by this decision include Douira-Sidi R’bat and Tamri-Cap Ghir, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Agadir maritime district. This decision comes after a thorough review conducted by the Technical Committee responsible for monitoring the marine environment and shellfish products. The committee assessed the results of analyses carried out by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH), which indicated a stabilization of the marine environments and a complete purification of mussels in the specified areas.
The State Secretariat emphasized the importance of public safety, advising consumers to purchase only packaged shellfish products that carry health identification labels and are available at authorized sales points, such as official markets. The sale of shellfish in bulk or through unauthorized channels poses health risks and lacks guarantees of hygiene, thereby constituting a potential danger to public health.
