Agadir Port Rehabilitation Project Secures 481 Million Dirhams for Modernization

Significant Investment for Agadir Port's Infrastructure

The recent approval of an amendment to the partnership agreement during the ordinary session of July 2026 marks a pivotal moment in the modernization efforts of Agadir's port infrastructure. The overall budget for this vital project has been re-evaluated and is now set at 481.8 million dirhams. This initiative is part of the Regional Development Program (PDR) for the years 2022-2027, aimed at enhancing the port's capabilities to meet the growing demands of maritime transport and connectivity in the region. The amendment is co-financed by the National Port Agency (ANP), contributing 261.8 million dirhams, alongside the Souss-Massa Regional Council, which allocates 220 million dirhams. A significant focus of this project is the development of a third access road, earmarked for 280 million dirhams, and 130 million dirhams dedicated to dredging operations to accommodate larger vessels, in conjunction with the enhancement of the fishing quay.

Key Features of the Rehabilitation Plan

Originally validated in March 2025, this partnership agreement amendment has now been officially sanctioned, bringing forth substantial adjustments regarding financial commitments. The total budget has been increased to 481.8 million dirhams from the initially projected 466 million dirhams, a necessary adjustment to ensure the successful execution of the proposed works. The ANP will deploy 261 million dirhams, while the regional council will contribute 220 million dirhams, thereby sharing the responsibilities of this significant investment. This endeavor aims to accelerate the development of the port's infrastructure, addressing the logistical priorities through four main development axes. The most substantial allocation of the budget is directed towards the construction of a third access road, which is crucial for streamlining heavy truck circulation and optimizing terrestrial logistics at the port's entrance.

In conjunction with the construction of the third section of the North-East bypass of Grand Agadir, which will provide this essential access, the ANP is also undertaking various preparatory works. These include the establishment of scanning zones and enhancements to the surrounding infrastructure. Moreover, the project involves the dredging of port basins, with an investment of 130 million dirhams, aimed at increasing the capacity for larger commercial vessels. This strategic approach not only seeks to bolster the port's capabilities but also aims to elevate its competitiveness on an international scale. As part of this initiative, the ANP has already initiated the tender process for updating the cruise terminal study and is committed to supporting the fishing sector through enhancements to the fishing quay and the establishment of a new multi-purpose terminal.
