Agadir Secures 1.1 Billion Dirhams for Reconstruction of Hassan II Regional Hospital

Agadir's Hassan II Regional Hospital to Undergo Major Reconstruction

The Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir is set to undergo significant reconstruction, with the establishment scheduled to temporarily close at the end of March to facilitate the commencement of this essential project. The budget allocated for this endeavor is approximately 1.1 billion dirhams. This decision was announced during a meeting led by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, alongside the wali of the Souss-Massa region, Said Amzazi, on March 19, 2026.

Originally established in 1961, the hospital has been deemed inadequate by the ministry to meet modern healthcare standards in terms of infrastructure and patient care quality. The future facility will feature four levels and accommodate between 415 and 450 beds. It is designed to include state-of-the-art medical equipment, enhanced emergency services (SAMU), and a dedicated oncology unit. The allocated budget reflects the commitment to modernize healthcare services in the region.

Temporary Closure and Continuity of Care

The hospital's temporary closure will begin at the end of March, during which time emergency services, childbirth, and hospital admissions will be redirected to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir. Routine consultations and examinations will continue at a newly established day clinic affiliated with the hospital, which has been specially adapted for this purpose. Health centers across the region will also maintain their roles in guiding and providing care to patients.

The ministry has assured that all necessary measures are being put in place to ensure continuity of services during this transition period. This includes the mobilization of all healthcare structures in the region to provide services in an optimal, coordinated, and secure manner. Furthermore, a reorganization and reassignment of human resources will be conducted within the regional healthcare system, ensuring respect for the rights of all personnel. The ministry reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing continuous care throughout the construction process.
