Agadir Gears Up for Throne Cup Cycling and Mountain Biking Events

The vibrant city of Agadir is preparing to host the prestigious Throne Cup competitions for road cycling and mountain biking (MTB) on August 1st and 2nd. This highly anticipated event will see participation from various age categories, representing numerous clubs and sports associations affiliated with the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation (FRMC).

This major national sporting event is being organized through a partnership between the FRMC and the Souss-Massa League, in collaboration with the Agadir MTB Club and the Najah Souss Cycling Association. The objective of this collaboration is to solidify the Throne Cup's esteemed status as one of the key annual fixtures in Moroccan cycling, providing a competitive platform for representatives from clubs across different regions of the Kingdom, as stated in a press release from the federation.

Event Schedule and Highlights

The first day of this grand event will feature an individual time trial road race, commencing at 09:00 on a closed circuit adjacent to the Grand Stadium of Agadir. Athletes of all age categories, both men and women, will be competing in this thrilling race.

The second day will focus on the mountain biking events, specifically the Olympic Cross-Country discipline, which will take place at the El Aïn Skhouna station in the Drargua commune, also starting at 09:00. Participants from various age categories, including both male and female competitors, are expected to take part in this exhilarating challenge.

The organizers aim for this significant sporting event to invigorate the sports and tourism activities in Agadir, enhancing the city's reputation as a capable host for major national and international events, thanks to its logistical advantages and modern infrastructure.

The previous edition of the Throne Cup competitions in road cycling and MTB took place on July 25th and 26th, respectively, in the cities of Azilal and Demnate. In that edition, Kamal Mahrouk from the Agadir Cycling Club and Salma Hariri from the El Majd Serghini Club claimed victory in the Senior men's and women's road cycling categories, while the Olympic Cross-Country MTB titles were won by Youssef Sakine from Ajial Demnate Club (Senior category) and Bilal Arid (U23 category) from the same club, with the Senior women's title going to Fatima Zahra El Ouardighi from the Agadir Cycling Club.
