Agadir's Promising April Tourism Statistics
In April 2026, Agadir solidified its reputation as a prime tourist destination, recording an impressive 135,021 arrivals, which represents a 9.22% increase compared to the same month last year. The total overnight stays surged to 589,858, reflecting a substantial 13.46% growth. This positive momentum is largely driven by a notable increase in visitors from the United Kingdom, France, Poland, and domestic tourists, showcasing Agadir's growing appeal. The average occupancy rate for classified hotels rose by 4.73 percentage points, reaching 66.82%. These figures indicate a more efficient management of accommodation capacities, successfully meeting a rapidly increasing demand.
Looking Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities for Summer
As the summer season approaches, Agadir, along with its neighboring areas of Taghazout and Imi Ouaddar, has reported a strong first quarter of 2026, with total arrivals reaching 337,469, marking a 6.95% increase and a total of 1.46 million overnight stays, up by 8.39%. In total, Agadir wrapped up 2025 with 1.5 million arrivals and 6.3 million overnight stays. The upward trend continued into April, as the latest statistics from the Agadir Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council confirmed a total of 135,021 arrivals, up from 123,627 in April 2025. This growth has been significantly influenced by the rise in key markets, particularly domestic travelers, who contributed 31,630 arrivals, marking a 16.19% increase. The British market remains the strongest, contributing 187,484 overnight stays, a remarkable 19.92% increase, solidifying its dominant market share at 31.78%.
As we move forward, the demand for accommodations has outpaced the existing capacity, leading to challenges such as the closure of 19 hotels and stalled construction projects. Currently, there is a shortfall of 6,500 beds, which presents a challenge for sustaining this growth trajectory. Despite this, the five-star hotels have performed exceptionally well, with a 33.99% increase in arrivals and a 38.98% increase in overnight stays. The positive trend in average length of stay and occupancy rates highlights the importance of enhancing customer experiences in order to maintain this growth. Moreover, Agadir is set to host the MEDITOUR 2026 forum from June 18 to 20, which will bring together over 200 decision-makers and international experts to discuss the future of Mediterranean tourism.
