New Community Facilities Inaugurated in Agadir
In a significant move aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents, Agadir has officially inaugurated four new community facilities as part of its Urban Development Program for 2020-2024. These newly constructed facilities, which include a cultural center, two socio-educational centers, and a municipal swimming pool, were launched in celebration of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Festival. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Aziz Akhannouch, the head of the government and president of the Agadir Municipal Council, alongside regional officials such as Saïd Amzazi and Karim Achengli. These initiatives are designed to boost local cultural, social, and sports offerings, providing residents with improved access to essential services.
Details of the Inaugurated Facilities
Among the new facilities, the Sheikh Maa El Aïnin Cultural Complex, located in the Lakhiam neighborhood, stands out as a key addition. This facility, constructed over two levels with a total built area of 1,430 square meters, is intended to host artistic and community activities. The project, overseen by Al Omrane Souss-Massa, was developed with a total budget of 14 million Moroccan Dirhams (MDH), with construction costs amounting to 6.87 MDH. The construction commenced in October 2023 and concluded in June 2025, with the official handover completed in April 2026.
In the Amsernat neighborhood, a three-level Social Activities Complex has been established, covering an area of 950 square meters with a total covered area of 1,500 square meters. This center is designed to provide training and social engagement opportunities, funded in collaboration with the Agadir Territorial Commune for a budget of 8.5 MDH. The construction of this facility began in October 2023 and was completed by December 2025.
Additionally, the Riad Salam neighborhood welcomed a new socio-educational facility that combines a women's center and a youth house. Built over a total area of 750 square meters (with 1,850 square meters covered over two levels), this facility offers educational resources and support structures for women and youth, with a total budget of 9 MDH. The construction started in October 2023 and was finalized in November 2024, with the facility officially handed over in April 2026.
Lastly, the Bensergao Wifaq neighborhood now boasts a state-of-the-art covered swimming pool, featuring a total area of 2,300 square meters along with 4,000 square meters of outdoor facilities. This pool includes a 25-meter by 12.5-meter swimming lane with six lanes, seating for 180 spectators, an infirmary, changing rooms, and a dining area. Construction on this facility began in August 2022 and has now been completed.
