Agadir's Logistics Zone Expands with New Operators
In a significant development for the logistics sector, Agadir's logistics zone has recently welcomed 16 new operators following a call for expressions of interest initiated by the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development (AMDL). This comes at a time when demand for logistics facilities has far outstripped the available lots, indicating a robust interest in enhancing the region's logistical capabilities.
The operational marketing phase of Agadir's logistics zone is now underway, with the AMDL's subsidiary, the Moroccan Logistics Installations Company (SMIL), selecting the 16 operators as part of their initiative to establish logistics real estate projects. The focus is on facilitating the development of Class A warehouses aimed at meeting the increasing storage, distribution, and supply chain management needs of businesses. The AMDL noted that the call for applications drew substantial interest, with demand significantly exceeding the available developed land.
Diverse Operators Selected for Logistics Development
The selected operators include well-known names such as SNTL, La Voie Express, BHF Atlas, BIM Maroc, Soft Group, Sahara Logistic Nord, Tegic Logistic, Africa Global Logistics – MSC, SODIPOL – Le Berger, Maroc Express, Maha Intaj, MSIMO, Winner Distributors, Phyto Sidid, Centre Pneumatique Ibn Tachfine, and Smurfit Kappa. This diverse list underscores the range of industries that will be represented in the zone, spanning transportation, logistics, distribution, and supply chain-related activities.
For the AMDL, the next step is to transform this selection into actual investments. The chosen companies have received official notifications and have a strict deadline of 30 days to finalize the necessary agreements required to launch their projects. This crucial phase will pave the way for the initial establishments within the logistics platform.
Furthermore, the Agadir experience is set to serve as a benchmark for future commercialization efforts. The AMDL has announced that the logistics zone of Ouled Saleh-Nouaceur, located south of Casablanca, will soon be made available to operators. Spanning 70 hectares, this platform is at an advanced stage of development, with completion of the infrastructure works already achieved. This will initiate a new phase aimed at attracting logistics operators, industrial players, and distributors, which is vital for the Casablanca region, Morocco's primary economic hub.
Agadir and Ouled Saleh are part of a broader strategy to develop a nationwide logistics real estate offering. Other projects are currently under construction, including those in the Zenata logistics zone, north of Casablanca, and in Fez. Through these initiatives, the AMDL aims to progressively establish a network of specialized zones capable of accommodating investments related to transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
This strategic approach aims to provide operators with organized and modern logistics spaces that meet contemporary standards. The establishment of these zones aligns with the overarching goal of enhancing competitiveness by bringing logistics infrastructure closer to key production, consumption, and exchange areas. The successful response to Agadir’s call for expressions of interest serves as a strong indicator of operators’ appetite for such infrastructure projects.
