Major Renovation Initiated for Adrar Stadium in Agadir
The renovation process for the Grand Stadium of Agadir, set to host matches during the 2030 World Cup, has officially commenced. The first phase of the project has been awarded at a staggering cost of 1.08 billion dirhams. Heavy machinery is currently operating diligently at the northern entrance of the stadium and its surroundings. This construction endeavor, projected to span over 15 months, aims to elevate the infrastructure to meet FIFA's international standards and requirements.
Comprehensive Upgrades to Meet FIFA Standards
Following the recent assignment of the renovation contract for Agadir's Grand Stadium, work has been actively underway for several days. At the northern entrance, five excavators are preparing the ground for the initial phase, which includes significant modifications such as structural demolition, waterproofing, and the installation of new coverings, carpentry work, and painting. This operation is being managed by the National Company for the Realization and Management of Sports Equipment (SONARGES) and the National Agency for Public Equipment (ANEP), ensuring that the venue aligns with FIFA's global standards. The renovation is divided into multiple segments, with the first focusing on critical technical areas, including structural changes and enhanced facilities.
Furthermore, the renovation plan introduces advanced digital tools from day one, providing a precise interactive 'identity card' for the stadium's structural components. This innovative approach will streamline future repairs and maintenance, ensuring that the venue remains in optimal condition. The entire project employs a 4D planning concept, linking construction timelines with digital models to visually monitor progress against the planned schedule, thereby proactively identifying any production discrepancies.
To guarantee the project's success, a Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) compliant with ISO 9001:2015 standards has been established. This plan includes a dual control structure: internal monitoring integrated into the contractor's production chain and external oversight managed directly by the delegated project owner. Additionally, the stadium's management will utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, requiring all stakeholders to produce digital models that facilitate spatial coordination and anticipate conflicts among the various construction segments.
In line with environmental sustainability goals, the renovation project also adheres to a "Low Impact Construction Charter" with high environmental quality certification. The contractor is tasked with implementing necessary measures to minimize environmental impacts, such as sorting waste for recycling with a target of over 50% recovery, protecting soil and water from accidental pollution, and managing noise and visual disturbances for local residents. The waste management plan is comprehensive, featuring six specific sorting bins for different waste types, including hazardous materials. Daily monitoring includes reporting on water and electricity consumption, waste generation records, and regular photographic documentation of work areas. Furthermore, contractors are required to appoint a Green Site Manager and produce a detailed Environmental Assurance Plan (EAP).
