Agadir's Tourism Boom: Over 3.1 Million Overnight Stays in 2026

Agadir's Rising Popularity in the Tourism Sector

As of July 17, 2026, Agadir, a renowned coastal destination in Morocco, has demonstrated remarkable growth in its tourism sector during the first half of the year. Driven by an increase in British tourists, a dynamic local market, and an expansion of high-end hotel offerings, Agadir has recorded a significant rise of 5.56% in arrivals and an impressive 8.54% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2025. According to recent reports from _Les Inspirations Eco_, a total of 732,372 tourists visited Agadir, resulting in 3.145 million overnight stays. This upward trend is further highlighted by an increase in the average length of stay, which has grown from 4.18 to 4.29 days, indicating a positive shift towards greater profitability for the hospitality sector.

The surge in popularity can be attributed largely to the enhancement of the premium accommodation sector. The introduction of two new hotels, namely the Grand Dominium and the Marriott Resort Taghazout Bay, has aligned with a growing demand for upscale lodging. Notably, five-star hotels have emerged as the primary beneficiaries of this trend, experiencing a remarkable 32.05% increase in arrivals, welcoming over 203,000 visitors, while their overnight stays soared by 34.90%. Conversely, vacation villages and club hotels have seen a decline of 15.40% in guest numbers, reflecting a gradual shift in consumer preference towards higher-quality services.

Market Trends and Future Prospects

This evolving market landscape has positively impacted the average occupancy rates of tourist establishments, which have reached 65.83% during the first six months of the year. The United Kingdom has solidified its position as the leading international market for Agadir, contributing over 182,000 visitors and generating more than one million overnight stays, with British tourists extending their stays to an average of 5.69 days. Following closely is the Moroccan market, accounting for over 180,000 visitors, despite shorter stay durations. Meanwhile, there has been a slight decline in French arrivals, although overnight stays from this demographic have increased by 6.24%, suggesting an extension of their visits. Additionally, Polish and German markets are also showing signs of growth.

Even though June saw a more moderate month, characterized by a mere 0.76% increase in arrivals and a 3.06% rise in overnight stays, the outlook remains optimistic for the upcoming summer season. Industry professionals believe that sustaining this growth will require revitalizing the mid-range segments and tourist villages, which are currently lagging behind in performance. The statistics from Agadir exemplify a shift in tourist demand towards longer stays and higher-value accommodations. This trend not only enhances visitor spending but also bolsters the competitiveness of the destination. Moroccan operators now face the challenge of adapting to this transformation without undermining the mid-tier market, ensuring a diverse offering that caters to both national and international clientele.
