Innovative Leak Detection in Khouribga
The Spanish technology company Aganova, renowned for its expertise in leak detection and the assessment of significant hydraulic structures, successfully completed an extensive inspection of over 60 kilometers of a DN1200 pipeline in Khouribga in April 2026. This project was conducted in collaboration with the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and Mairav, utilizing Nautilus, an intelligent sphere that navigates pressurized pipelines without interrupting service. The inspection uncovered nine confirmed anomalies within the examined structure, several of which were classified as highly severe, with estimated flow rates reaching up to 36.7 cubic meters per hour at one identified point. These findings position the Khouribga pipeline among sections where meticulous monitoring and prioritized repairs can significantly mitigate water losses while maintaining uninterrupted distribution.
Nautilus operates autonomously within the pipeline, capturing high-precision acoustic data and operational parameters. This innovative method allows for the accurate localization of anomalies, assessment of their severity, and provision of a useful mapping tool for maintenance decision-making. For Aganova, this mission underscores a steadfast commitment to enhancing the water infrastructure in Morocco, leveraging technology that facilitates early detection of critical issues, reduces water losses, and improves the efficiency of networks without service interruptions.
Expanding Presence in Morocco's Water Sector
The data collected by Nautilus is subsequently processed through Aganova's proprietary artificial intelligence platform, which evaluates the structural condition of the pipelines, identifies potential risks, and aids in the preventive management of water networks. The significance of this process lies in its ability to operate on large-diameter systems, where traditional inspections often face more stringent constraints. With this latest deployment in Khouribga, Aganova is broadening its Moroccan operations following successful initiatives in Casablanca and Agadir. In Agadir, the company conducted an advanced acoustic inspection of a DN1600 desalinated water supply pipeline in collaboration with MAIRAV, also employing Nautilus technology.
In Casablanca, Aganova participated in a camera-based remote inspection using CCTV methods on large pipelines to support diagnostics and maintenance efforts for sensitive hydraulic structures. The strategic tripartite presence in Casablanca, Agadir, and Khouribga positions Aganova as a technical partner to several water operators in Morocco, a market where water scarcity necessitates a better understanding of the actual conditions of networks and a reduction in invisible losses.
