Air Transat Launches Historic Non-Stop Flight from Montreal to Agadir

Air Transat Introduces Direct Flights to Agadir

Air Transat is set to revolutionize travel between North America and Morocco by inaugurating its first-ever non-stop flight from Montreal to Agadir on June 12. This groundbreaking route marks a pivotal moment in enhancing connectivity between Canada and Morocco’s stunning Atlantic coast, significantly boosting the burgeoning tourism ties between the two regions. The new service not only facilitates direct access to Agadir—a city known for its sun-kissed beaches and vibrant resort culture—but also complements Morocco's expanding international flight network.

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (MNTO) recently celebrated this significant development during a lively event at Montreal's historic Vieux-Port. The inaugural flight is regarded as a milestone in the strategic aviation and tourism initiatives of Morocco, aiming to attract more Canadian travelers to its shores. The event drew dignitaries, including Her Excellency Souriya Otmani, the Moroccan Ambassador to Canada, as well as various tourism industry representatives, showcasing the collective excitement around this new air service.

“The launch of this new flight undeniably represents a strategic milestone for Morocco, and it also speaks to the deepening cultural connection between Morocco and Canada,” stated Siham Fettouhi, Executive Director for North America at the MNTO. “With Agadir set to become more accessible than ever, we look forward to welcoming more Canadian travelers to discover the magic of the Moroccan coast.”

Enhancing Tourism and Connectivity

Guests at the launch event experienced a taste of Moroccan culture, highlighted by traditional hospitality practices such as argan oil hand massages and tastings of local delicacies. This weekly service, departing every Friday, opens a direct channel for Canadian tourists eager to explore one of Morocco's rapidly growing tourism hotspots. Agadir’s allure lies in its year-round sunshine, stunning beaches, and modern resort amenities, offering a different experience compared to Morocco's historically popular imperial cities.

The new route is set to complement Air Transat’s existing year-round service between Montreal and Marrakech, thereby reinforcing Morocco's extensive international connectivity. Currently, Royal Air Maroc offers direct flights from Montreal and Toronto to Casablanca, providing Canadian travelers with multiple entry points into the Kingdom.

As Morocco experiences a tourism boom—with an impressive increase in Canadian visitors—this new service is timely. In 2025, Morocco welcomed over 258,000 Canadian tourists, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. This upward trend has continued into 2026, with approximately 76,000 Canadian arrivals recorded in the first four months of the year alone, representing an 8% increase compared to the same timeframe last year.

With the launch of the Montreal-Agadir route, Morocco aims to build on its robust international aviation network, which connects the country to major cities across the globe. Compared to other North African destinations that often rely on connecting flights through Europe, Morocco stands out for its direct service offerings from North America, making it a prime travel choice for Canadian tourists. This new flight not only enhances travel options but also allows visitors to experience a rich blend of Morocco's cultural heritage, from the vibrant souks of Marrakech to the serene beach lifestyle of Agadir.
