Algerian Security Forces Disrupt Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Operation
In an impressive display of law enforcement capability, the National Security Forces in the province of Khenchela, Algeria, successfully thwarted a significant criminal operation aimed at smuggling approximately 242 kilograms of processed cannabis from Morocco. This operation, which was reported on June 1, 2026, showcased the diligent efforts of the local police and their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the Khenchela police units disrupted the criminal plot during this past week, leading to the arrest of three individuals linked to an organized international crime network.
The operation unfolded in two distinct phases. Initially, law enforcement officials seized 131 kilograms of processed cannabis concealed within a utility vehicle operating in the Khenchela region. This significant discovery led to the apprehension of two individuals who had prior criminal records. Subsequent investigations allowed the authorities to identify a third suspect, who was later arrested in the city of Constantine. In a further breakthrough, authorities confiscated an additional 111 kilograms of processed cannabis that was meticulously hidden in a second utility vehicle.
Following these successful operations, the apprehended suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the Khenchela court, where they will face charges related to their involvement in this extensive drug trafficking scheme. The proactive measures taken by the Algerian police highlight the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes in the region, especially those linked to international trafficking routes.
