The Alicante-Elche Airport is making strides in expanding its flight network with a keen focus on the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. In a significant development, Royal Air Maroc has commenced flights from Alicante to the Moroccan city of Casablanca, effectively linking the beautiful Costa Blanca region with this key hub. Following this launch in April, Vueling Airlines has stepped up to introduce its second route to North Africa, specifically to Tangier, which is now operational as of May 5. This follows the earlier initiation of the Constantina route in Algeria on March 26, with the inaugural flight from the Moroccan airport having arrived just last Saturday.
To celebrate this milestone, Vueling hosted a small gathering at the boarding gate for the launch of its first flight to Tangier from Alicante. Notably, Tangier is set to be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup, with the capacity to host matches in a stadium that can accommodate up to 75,000 spectators. Vueling will operate this route with two flights per week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, catering to the growing demand as the world’s attention turns toward the tournament.
The inaugural flight departed on Tuesday at 20:00, arriving in Morocco at 20:50, while the Saturday flights are scheduled for an early morning takeoff at 5:15. For the return journey, flights will leave Tangier on Tuesdays at 21:35 and Saturdays at 6:40, with arrival in Alicante set for 9:10. Alongside the new Tangier route, Alicante-Elche Airport is also introducing additional connections for the high season, including a new service to Germany. Eurowings, the low-cost airline of Lufthansa, has commenced operations on its new route to Hanover, complementing Ryanair’s existing services. This route will see flights departing from Alicante on Tuesdays at 8:40, arriving in Hanover at 11:40, while Saturday flights will leave at 18:50, landing at 21:50. The return flights from Germany will take off on Tuesdays at 5:00 AM, reaching Alicante by 8:00, and on Saturdays at 15:00, landing back in Alicante at 18:00.
