Recent Court Rulings on Drug-Related Offenses in Fes
In a significant legal development, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance in Fes has issued sentences today regarding a case involving two individuals charged with drug possession, trafficking, and facilitating drug use for others. The primary defendant, Hassan Al-Mujahid, was sentenced to four months in prison along with a fine of 2000 dirhams for his involvement in the possession and trafficking of illegal substances, as well as for facilitating their use by others. In a separate but related ruling, Ayoub Arousi received a three-month prison sentence and was also fined 2000 dirhams. Moreover, the court ordered the destruction of the confiscated drugs and the confiscation of two mobile phones, which will be transferred to state property, alongside the seizure of the cash that was found during the arrest for the benefit of the public treasury.
In an interesting turn, the court has opted to replace Arousi's prison sentence with a community service obligation, highlighting a shift towards rehabilitative justice rather than punitive measures. He was made aware of the repercussions of failing to comply with this community service requirement, which would revert him to the original prison sentence.
