Ana Peláez Positioned for Success at the Lalla Meryem Cup
The second round of the Lalla Meryem Cup, part of the Ladies European Tour, is currently taking place at the Blue Course of the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, Morocco. Spanish golfer Ana Peláez has put herself in an excellent position, sitting at -6 and tied for fifth place, as she aims for a remarkable result this weekend. The Málaga native mirrored her performance from Thursday, demonstrating consistency in her game, although she remains a bit distant from the lead in the quest for victory.
Ana recorded five birdies during her round, just one less than the previous day, but she notably improved her performance by reducing her mistakes, finishing with only two bogeys compared to three in the first round. Interestingly, her two errors occurred on the 9th and 18th holes—two holes where she had also stumbled on Thursday. This indicates room for improvement as she heads into the final 36 holes of the tournament, where she is determined to achieve her best result of the season on the tour, aiming to surpass her tied 17th place finish at the MCB Ladies Classic in Mauritius.
Challenges for Fellow Spaniards but Hope Remains
Unfortunately, Teresa Toscano, who began the week strongly with a score of 70, had a tumultuous round today. Her scorecard included four birdies, two bogeys, one double bogey, and a surprising triple bogey on the par-three 3rd hole, which likely affected her mentally for the remainder of her round. Fortunately, she managed to make the cut by just one stroke, allowing her the chance to regroup over the weekend and reclaim lost ground.
Additionally, Blanca Fernández and Luna Sobrón will continue competing this Saturday and Sunday, both finishing the day at -1 and tied for 28th place with rounds of 72 and 71, respectively. Harang Lee and Marta Sanz, both at +2, barely made the cut, providing them with two more opportunities to improve upon their shared 54th position. Meanwhile, Australian golfer Kelsey Bennett continues to dominate the tournament, showcasing an impressive performance with a score of -13. After a solid 68 yesterday, she followed up with a remarkable 65 today, featuring eight birdies without any mistakes, leading by three strokes.
Unfortunately, Marta Martín, María Hernández, Amaia Latorre, Constanza Guerrero, and María Parra have not advanced past the cut.
