Armenia Backs Morocco's Initiative for Self-Governance
In a significant diplomatic development, Armenia has officially expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy initiative, which is viewed as a crucial step towards strengthening the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This endorsement was articulated during a meeting held between Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, and his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a gathering that underscores the importance of international collaboration.
During this meeting, Mirzoyan highlighted a message sent to King Mohammed VI by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, emphasizing the particular significance of the Moroccan initiative concerning the Sahara issue. Pashinyan described the initiative as a "realistic political solution," reinforcing Armenia's stance on the matter. He noted that the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 marked a pivotal moment in the process of resolving this long-standing issue, paving the way for enhanced territorial unity in Morocco and fostering peaceful coexistence and prosperity among the peoples of the region.
The discussion between the two foreign ministers also encompassed prospects for new avenues of bilateral cooperation. They agreed upon specific measures that will be taken in the near future to achieve these objectives, alongside reviewing several regional and international issues that are of mutual interest.
