Arrest of a 30-Year-Old Suspected of Distilling Illicit Alcohol

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, local law enforcement in Chichaoua successfully apprehended a man in his thirties, suspected of engaging in the illegal production and distillation of a homemade alcoholic beverage known as "Maa el-Hayat" (Water of Life). This operation was part of a broader initiative aimed at curbing the illicit manufacture and distribution of unlicensed alcoholic drinks.

The arrest followed meticulous surveillance and monitoring of the suspect’s activities, which were reported to the authorities through reliable intelligence. As a result, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the suspect's home, where they discovered him in the act of distilling the illegal alcohol.

During the search, authorities seized approximately 40 liters of fermenting "Maa el-Hayat" and around five liters of the finished product, ready for distribution. Additionally, various tools and equipment believed to have been utilized in the distillation process were confiscated.

The individual has since been taken to the local police station in Chichaoua, where he remains in custody under provisional detention. This measure was ordered by the relevant judicial authorities to facilitate a thorough investigation into the case and to clarify all circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses, pending his appearance before a judge in accordance with legal procedures.
