During the investigation, the victim recounted harrowing details of her years of captivity and mistreatment, starting from the age of sixteen. She was forcibly prevented from continuing her education, entering the workforce, or leaving the house unaccompanied. Her access to mobile phones was restricted, and she was subjected to physical abuse, along with being coerced into performing household chores. The situation escalated to the point where her identity documents and passport were confiscated to compel her into marriage, despite her firm objections.
Investigators revealed that the family's plan included swiftly marrying the young woman outside of Spain, exploiting the marriage certificate to later facilitate the arrival of the groom and help him regularize his legal status within Spain. This alarming case has highlighted significant issues surrounding forced marriages and human rights violations.
In accordance with local legal procedures, Spanish authorities and media are adhering to strict protocols that prohibit the disclosure of the nationalities or backgrounds of both the accused and the victims in cases of domestic violence and human trafficking. Currently, the three family members have been charged with human trafficking for the purpose of forced marriage, coercion, and domestic violence.
