Advancing Hearing Care in Morocco
From May 14 to 22, 2026, AuditionSolidarité undertook its seventh mission in Aït-Melloul, a suburb of Agadir, at the Zohour center, which supports underprivileged deaf and hard-of-hearing children. This mission was particularly focused on enhancing the skills of local professionals in Morocco, reinforcing the organization's commitment to improving hearing care in underserved communities.
During this week-long initiative, a dedicated team of 15 volunteer professionals made significant strides, including the assessment or replacement of hearing devices for 175 children, customizing 158 hearing aids, and manufacturing 266 tailored ear molds. The 2026 mission emphasized skill enhancement and fostering independence among the local Moroccan team. Trained in various areas such as audiometry, ear mold fabrication, fitting of hearing aids, and speech therapy, the team has demonstrated considerable growth in its ability to provide quality follow-up care to children since the last visit in 2024. This progress aligns with AuditionSolidarité's goal of establishing sustainable local teams capable of operating independently from French volunteers.
Beyond the technical outcomes, this mission furthered existing training programs, welcomed new members into the Moroccan team, and introduced innovative procedures in speech therapy, with a strong emphasis on structuring support for children. The collaborative efforts not only uplift the local healthcare landscape but also ensure that the knowledge and skills remain within the community for future generations.
