In a decisive move to combat the distribution of illegal pharmaceutical products, law enforcement in Marrakech successfully executed two separate operations on the evening of Monday, March 16. These actions led to the arrest of three individuals aged between 22 and 33 years, who are suspected of being involved in the marketing of smuggled medication that poses a risk to public health.
The operations were initiated following the surveillance activities of the national police's information alert services, which identified advertisements on social media platforms promoting the sale of smuggled pharmaceutical products purportedly used to facilitate abortions. Through technical investigations and field inquiries, the identities of the suspects were determined.
The first operation resulted in the apprehension of a private security guard at a public hospital, who was caught in possession of expired medication dating back to 2018, which he was attempting to sell under the guise of aiding in abortion procedures. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered 166 expired pills, alongside 1,968 units of various other medications and pharmaceutical materials.
In the second operation, two additional suspects were detained in Marrakech while they were allegedly engaged in the promotion of 21 pharmaceutical pills claimed to serve the same purpose. The search also yielded two mobile phones, believed to have been used to facilitate this illicit activity, as well as a sum of money suspected to be the proceeds from these criminal acts.
The apprehended individuals have been placed under judicial custody as part of a judicial investigation supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office. This inquiry aims to uncover all aspects of the case and identify any additional potential accomplices, with ongoing investigations to apprehend all those connected to these activities.
