Aya Gold & Silver Acquires 139 km² Mining Permits in Morocco

On September 4, 2026, Canadian mining company Aya Gold & Silver announced its plan to acquire 139 square kilometers of mining permits in Morocco for a mere 4 million Canadian dollars. This expansive territory is rich in copper and silver deposits and is strategically located near Aya's existing Zgounder mine.

The acquisition marks a significant milestone in Aya Gold & Silver's efforts to expand its operations within Morocco's mineral-rich subsoil. The agreement includes a portfolio of exploration permits, which encompasses a mining license covering an area of 19 square kilometers. Situated in the Tizi region, approximately 35 kilometers west of the already operational Zgounder silver mine, this acquisition highlights the company's ambition and strategic growth in the region.

To facilitate this transaction, Aya will pay the 4 million Canadian dollars—equivalent to about 26 million Moroccan dirhams—entirely through stock. A subsidiary of Aya will purchase all shares of the company holding the mining permits, although the identity of the seller has not been disclosed in the official announcement made by the Canadian group.

Initial data from Aya indicates promising concentrations of copper and silver in surface samples, with historical samples revealing impressive figures of up to 837 grams of silver per ton and 4.6% copper content. Aya's own recent sampling efforts have also yielded significant results, with findings of up to 500 grams of silver per ton and 4% copper.

Exploration Plans and Future Prospects

Aya has confirmed the presence of a substantial copper and silver horizon extending over two kilometers in length, and the company intends to leverage the existing infrastructure and workforce at Zgounder to explore this new territory effectively. However, it is important to note that this acquisition is not finalized yet; it is still subject to further verification and requires approvals from both Moroccan and Canadian authorities, as well as the Toronto Stock Exchange.

This latest acquisition follows closely on the heels of another strategic move by Aya just a month prior, where the company announced the acquisition of 259 square kilometers of mining lands located between Zagora, Agadir-Melloul, and Guelmim. This initial portfolio included three mining licenses and 18 exploration permits targeting various minerals, including silver, copper, gold, cobalt, and rare earth elements.

With the addition of the new 139 square kilometers near Zgounder, Aya has dramatically increased its footprint in Morocco, announcing nearly 400 square kilometers of mining rights in just a few weeks. The company's stated objective is to establish a dominant position around its primary Moroccan mine and to develop a new platform focused on copper and silver production.
