Recently, Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab was playing in the fifth division of German football, but now he is poised to make a significant impact on the international stage as he prepares to represent Morocco at the FIFA World Cup. Just six months ago, this 21-year-old was relatively unknown in the vast landscape of professional football, plying his trade in the third division. During his time with the second team of TSG Hoffenheim, he showcased his exceptional dribbling skills and impressive offensive play, catching the attention of many observers, including Eintracht Frankfurt, who made the bold move to sign him.
Now, after participating in 17 Bundesliga matches, Amaimouni-Echghouyab has firmly established himself on the football map, earning the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream of playing in the World Cup. Expressing his excitement on Instagram, he stated, "A childhood dream is coming true. I am very proud to represent my country at the World Cup." His official nomination came shortly after being named in the preliminary squad, despite the fact that he has yet to play a single international match for Morocco, not even at the youth level.
In a recent interview, Amaimouni-Echghouyab reflected on his journey, mentioning a prior invitation to the national team for a friendly match in March, but nothing materialized thereafter. Now, as one of the 26 players selected, he has a chance to shine on the global stage against formidable opponents including Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland.
This monumental achievement starkly contrasts with his earlier experiences playing in lesser leagues. Just two years ago, he was competing in the fifth tier with Erkenschwick, and by the 2024/2025 season, he helped Hoffenheim's second team ascend from the fourth to the third division. His remarkable performance of 15 points (nine goals and six assists) in just 18 matches during the first half of that season caught the eye of many, including SV Wehen Wiesbaden, who witnessed his prowess during his final match for TSG in December 2025.
Despite the risks associated with his transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt, which cost the club a mere €200,000, the management was confident in his ability to adapt quickly to the higher demands of Bundesliga football. Sporting director Timmo Hardung noted the need for adjustment time but believed in Amaimouni-Echghouyab's potential to rise to the occasion with the right support.
Remarkably, he did not require any adaptation period and quickly became one of the bright spots in a challenging season for Eintracht, marked by coaching changes and instability. He made an instant impact, scoring a goal in his first Bundesliga appearance, followed by another and three assists.
Reflecting on the rapid progression of his career, Amaimouni-Echghouyab admitted, "I did not expect everything to happen so quickly. The past two years have gone perfectly; I have not given up, and the club changes have worked out well for me." Instead of donning a club jersey, he will now proudly wear the Moroccan national team's colors as he embarks on this exciting journey in the upcoming World Cup to be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
As he aptly posted after his nomination, "The journey continues..." It remains to be seen how far Morocco will advance in the tournament, but for Frankfurt's rising star, a lifelong dream is set to become a reality.
