Preserving the Spirit of Historical Buildings
In the realm of urban regeneration, the importance of integrating innovative solutions cannot be overstated; however, it is equally vital to maintain the essence of historical structures and the cultural memories they embody. This was the central theme expressed by Adib Benbrahim, the Secretary of State for Housing under the Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and Urban Policy in Morocco. Speaking at a critical session titled “Rethinking Cultural Heritage and Inclusive Urban Regeneration” during the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), Benbrahim articulated the necessity of preserving the rich tapestry of the city's heritage while embarking on transformative urban initiatives.
Benbrahim emphasized that any urban development strategy must also encompass improvements in the transportation systems serving historical neighborhoods. Strengthening public infrastructure is crucial to ensure that these areas remain accessible and vibrant, while also addressing underlying issues such as unemployment.
