Baleària Reports 10% Growth in Cargo Transport for 2025

Baleària, a prominent maritime operator, reported a significant milestone in its cargo transport activities, achieving an impressive 8,392,000 linear meters of goods transported in 2025. This figure marks a remarkable 10% increase compared to the previous year, with much of this growth attributed to the positive performance of its routes connecting the Iberian Peninsula with Morocco, particularly the Algeciras-Tanger route. This strategic focus on enhancing its logistical capabilities has solidified Baleària's role as a key maritime logistics operator in both the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions.

The transportation of goods represents a substantial 36% of Baleària's overall revenue, underscoring its importance as a cornerstone of the company's operations. Notably, the routes connecting the Balearic Islands and Morocco are of paramount significance, further emphasizing the company's commitment to facilitating trade and logistics across these critical regions. The routes including Tanger Med–Algeciras and Nador–Almería play a crucial role in bolstering commercial flows between Spain and North Africa, contributing to the growth of roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) traffic at the Port of Algeciras.

Maximiliano Bermejo, the Cargo Director at Baleària, highlighted that the results reflect the increasingly vital role of the company in the supply chain for its clients, not only in non-peninsular territories but also in international connections. He emphasized that Baleària offers a "reliable, flexible, and efficient" service while striving to maintain a lower environmental footprint. The company has successfully reduced its CO2 emissions per linear meter transported by 12%, thanks to improved energy efficiency of its fleet, the use of fuels with a lower environmental impact, and operational optimizations. Bermejo remarked, "We are implementing solutions that enable us to move toward a more efficient logistics model with a reduced environmental impact, aligned with our decarbonization roadmap."

Moreover, Baleària has recently enhanced its market position in Europe following the acquisition of Armas Trasmediterránea. The company forecasts an annual cargo traffic target of 11 million linear meters, a goal that will be supported by the expansion of its operations in the Strait of Gibraltar, with a definitive announcement expected in the coming weeks.

In a bid to further streamline its services, Baleària has launched a new online booking service for cargo space aimed at customers without predefined tariff conditions. Through this innovative platform, users can consult real-time availability, associated services, and pricing, enabling them to reserve space in the ship's cargo holds immediately. This new system replaces traditional processes with a digital model that reduces management times and enhances the logistical planning capabilities for customers.
