Official Reserves Show Steady Growth
The Bank of Morocco has announced that its official reserves have reached approximately 498 billion dirhams as of the end of July 2026, reflecting a modest increase of 0.2% from the previous week and a significant rise of about 22.7% year-on-year. This data comes from the latest weekly report on monetary and financial indicators issued by the bank.
During the period from July 30 to August 5, the Moroccan dirham strengthened against major currencies, with an appreciation of 0.8% against the US dollar and 0.6% against the euro. Notably, there were no tender operations in the foreign exchange market during this timeframe, indicating a period of stability. The Bank of Morocco continued to intervene in the financial market to manage liquidity, with its average daily interventions amounting to approximately 149.3 billion dirhams.
These interventions included short-term advances of 53.9 billion dirhams, longer-term repurchase agreements totaling 47.9 billion dirhams, and secured loans amounting to 47.5 billion dirhams. In the interbank market, the average daily transaction volume was around 2.6 billion dirhams, while the average interbank interest rate remained stable at 2.25% during the same period. In the latest tender operation conducted on August 5, 2026, the Bank of Morocco made 49.4 billion dirhams available to the banking sector in the form of seven-day advances.
