BCIJ's Successful Operation Against Terrorism
The Bureau Central d'Investigations Judiciaires (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), has successfully dismantled a new terrorist cell involving six suspects believed to be engaged in criminal activities driven by extremism. These activities include theft, burglary, and money laundering, commonly referred to as ‘legitimation of loot’. The arrests occurred during operations conducted on April 5 and 6, 2026, across various locations including Kénitra, Casablanca, the Dar El Gueddari region in Sidi Kacem province, and Sidi Taïbi.
According to a statement from the BCIJ, the operations involved thorough searches that led to the seizure of extremist literature, various bladed weapons, blunt instruments, and cash amounts suspected to stem from criminal undertakings. Additionally, law enforcement officials confiscated a balaclava, gloves, and three vehicles, including two vans likely used for transporting stolen goods, along with a motorcycle believed to have facilitated the commission of these crimes.
Ongoing Investigations and Criminal Ties
Investigative efforts, supported by police surveillance, uncovered that the suspects, deeply influenced by extremist ideology, had recently participated in organized thefts and burglaries as part of a criminal association aimed at profiting from illicit proceeds. Their criminal modus operandi involved raiding livestock facilities in rural areas around Kénitra and Sidi Slimane, with the stolen goods being sold in local markets in Joumaa Shim and Zemamra.
Currently, investigations continue to fully unravel the extent of criminal activities attributed to the suspects, as well as their connections to broader extremist networks. Authorities are also focused on identifying and apprehending any remaining accomplices involved in these operations. For the purposes of the judicial inquiry, all suspects have been placed in custody as investigations proceed under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office specializing in terrorism and extremism cases.
