Bennani Ratal Highlights Government's Shortcomings in Promoting Local Production
On July 7, 2026, Hind Bennani Ratal, a member of the Justice and Development Party's parliamentary group, called on the government to reassess and actively implement the royal message issued in 2023, which aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of local production. During a weekly question session in the House of Representatives on July 6, 2026, she expressed her concerns regarding the fate of the government program that promised to allocate 34 billion dirhams to promote the "Made in Morocco" initiative.
Bennani Ratal pointed out that the government’s term is nearing its end, yet the Prime Minister has not addressed all the questions raised by the parliamentary group regarding this critical issue. She emphasized that Morocco's imports have surged to 370 billion dirhams, reflecting an 11% increase, which adversely affects national businesses due to rising production costs.
Moreover, she noted a significant decline in Morocco's domestic pharmaceutical production, which had previously met 70% of the country's needs but has now fallen below 50% under the current administration. Bennani Ratal criticized the Minister of Fisheries, who boasts about the sector's achievements while ignoring the fact that Morocco continues to import canned sardines. This, she argued, is a significant oversight, especially considering Morocco’s rich tradition in handicrafts.
In her closing remarks, Bennani Ratal challenged the government, questioning the authenticity of the claims surrounding the electric cars purportedly manufactured in Morocco, suggesting that these assertions might be misleading to the citizens. Her statements underscore a pressing need for government accountability and a genuine commitment to fostering local industries in line with royal directives.
