Community Initiative for Direct Air Travel
A group of French citizens, along with members of the Moroccan diaspora residing in France, have launched a petition on the platform Change.org, advocating for the reinstatement of direct flights connecting Clermont-Ferrand, France, to Morocco. The petition, titled "For the Return of Direct Air Links Between Clermont-Ferrand and Morocco," highlights the significant inconvenience faced by residents in the Auvergne region, who must travel hundreds of kilometers to reach airports in Lyon, Paris, or Toulouse in order to fly to Morocco.
The petitioners express that this situation leads to additional costs, longer travel times, and numerous challenges, especially for families with children, elderly individuals, students, and workers. Many in the region view Morocco as a vital destination for various reasons, including family visits, tourism, and professional engagements. The petition calls for an expedited review of this air route to meet the genuine needs of the local population wishing to travel to Morocco.
Personal Testimonies and the Need for Improved Connectivity
One of the signatories remarked that the return of flights between Clermont-Ferrand and Morocco would significantly enhance the travel experience for him and his family. He mentioned that he personally undertakes more than five round trips annually, and having direct flights would greatly simplify their travel plans, saving them time and reducing costs while facilitating connections with loved ones. Another supporter emphasized the necessity of developing their city’s transportation infrastructure to decrease reliance on nearby cities for air travel, particularly to Morocco. This is especially pertinent for older residents who face complications when traveling to Lyon to board flights, highlighting the potential benefits of establishing direct air services from Clermont-Ferrand.
