CAM Uncovers Rally Promoting Hamas in Morocco
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) has brought to light a recent rally held in Sraghna Square, Casablanca, where participants openly expressed admiration for terrorism and provided vocal support for Hamas. This protest, which took place on a Sunday, saw demonstrators glorifying Yahya Sinwar, a former Hamas leader recognized as the mastermind behind the October 7th massacre, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza in 2024. Attendees hailed him as a 'martyr of the Ummah,' showcasing a stark endorsement of violence and terrorism.
During the rally, there were numerous calls for 'resistance,' a term often used as a euphemism for acts of terrorism, alongside banners that urged the Moroccan government to cut its ties with Israel. The 'Youth Against Normalization' group, which shared footage of this event, responded to CAM's reporting by asserting, 'On our page, we provide you with everything that upsets you, God willing.' This statement underscores the provocative nature of the rally and the contentious atmosphere surrounding the issue of normalization with Israel.
In addition to the rally's inflammatory content, an accompanying slide targeted CAM’s CEO Sacha Roytman, emphasizing his previous service in the Israel Defense Forces and CAM’s extensive network of international partners. To this, CAM responded in Arabic, extending a welcoming message, which highlights their commitment to addressing antisemitism and related issues across the globe.
It is noteworthy that Morocco and Israel established diplomatic relations in 2020, as part of the broader Abraham Accords facilitated by the United States, which also included the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan. Recently, CAM has expanded its Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by adding a dedicated Arabic-language analyst, enhancing its ability to study antisemitism throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
