Legal Proceedings and Recovery Efforts
More than six years ago, the lawyer filed a lawsuit against the Casablanca municipality, alleging that it had demolished the dependencies of a villa registered in her name to replace them with a public alley. She initially won her case, leading to the municipality being ordered to pay damages. However, recent revelations reported by the Arabic daily _Assabah_ indicate that the mayor had documentation affirming the recovery of the funds from the lawyer. This action is part of a wider initiative by authorities to reclaim public funds that have been wrongfully obtained. Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit emphasized the government's commitment to recovering any unlawfully acquired property, stating, "Anyone who takes even a square meter of land or a single dirham must return it, or they will face severe consequences." The lawyer was ultimately forced to repay the total amount of damages awarded by the administrative court, which was later found to have been based on fraudulent documents. The municipality of Casablanca has previously managed to recover over 245 million dirhams in similar cases, highlighting its ongoing efforts to rectify legal injustices and recover public funds.
