Casablanca-Settat Emerges as Leader in Morocco's Household Spending for 2024

Overview of Household Spending in Morocco

The latest regional accounts released by Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP) reveal significant insights into household spending patterns across the country for the year 2024. Notably, five out of Morocco's twelve regions accounted for a substantial 74.4% of the national household final consumption expenditure (HFCE), highlighting a pronounced economic concentration. The Casablanca-Settat region stands out as the frontrunner, contributing an impressive 25.3% of the total national household spending. Following closely are the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, and Marrakech-Safi, with shares of 14.8%, 11.6%, 11.4%, and 11.3% respectively. The national household final consumption expenditure in 2024 reached a staggering 944.1 billion dirhams, indicating a robust economic activity within these key regions.

Regional Disparities and Per Capita Spending

Further analysis by the HCP underscores the growing regional disparities in household consumption, with the average gap between regional household spending and the national average escalating to 51.5 billion dirhams in 2024. This is an increase from 48.5 billion dirhams in 2023, showcasing an increasing trend towards consumer spending being concentrated in Morocco's more economically dynamic areas. On a per capita basis, the average household final consumption expenditure across the nation was 25,664 dirhams in 2024. Interestingly, six regions surpassed this average, with Dakhla-Oued Eddahab leading at 34,515 dirhams, followed by Casablanca-Settat at 31,173 dirhams, and the Oriental region at 27,805 dirhams. Other regions exceeding the national average include Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, further illustrating the diverse economic landscape within Morocco.
