Significant Growth in Vegetable Farming

The Casablanca-Settat region has achieved remarkable progress in vegetable farming, with cultivated areas reaching an impressive 56,709 hectares (Ha) for the agricultural campaign of 2025-2026. This marks a substantial 12% increase compared to the previous campaign and surpasses the preliminary target of 54,851 hectares by 103%. Such achievements underscore the region's commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity.

Favorable Conditions Drive Agricultural Success

According to a statement from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture for Casablanca-Settat, all seasonal crops—including autumn, winter, and spring varieties—have exceeded their assigned targets, with completion rates of 107%, 117%, and 106% respectively. This impressive performance can be attributed to significantly improved climatic conditions, which have revitalized the agricultural sector after several years of drought. Notably, substantial rainfall in the region has played a crucial role in fostering this agricultural renaissance.

In the autumn season alone, vegetable farming covered 17,439 hectares, with potatoes leading the way at 7,040 hectares, followed closely by onions at 2,920 hectares and carrots at 2,910 hectares. The winter crops expanded over 19,386 hectares, primarily dedicated to potatoes (9,530 hectares) and onions (4,550 hectares). Meanwhile, spring crops utilized 14,248 hectares, with potatoes occupying 2,692 hectares and onions 2,390 hectares. The summer cropping season has also commenced, with 5,636 hectares planted, which represents 59% of the planned area.

The statement further emphasizes that these results reflect the strong mobilization of local farmers and the effectiveness of the supportive measures implemented by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. This collective effort has significantly contributed to the sector's dynamism and enabled these encouraging outcomes. The Regional Directorate remains committed to ongoing monitoring and technical support to ensure the success of this program and to guarantee a steady supply of quality vegetables to the markets.
