Significant Growth in Agricultural Land Usage
In a remarkable development for the agricultural sector, the Casablanca-Settat region has reported a substantial increase in the area dedicated to vegetable cultivation, reaching an impressive 56,709 hectares for the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign. This figure not only marks a notable 12% rise compared to the previous campaign but also exceeds the initial forecast by 3%, which had set the target at 54,851 hectares. The data, released by the regional agricultural directorate, underscores a successful agricultural season characterized by favorable climatic conditions, including significant rainfall that has revitalized the sector after years of drought.
Successful Crop Yield Across Seasons
The seasonal breakdown of crop cultivation reveals an outstanding performance across all stages: autumn, winter, and spring crops have all surpassed their respective targets with achievement rates of 107%, 117%, and 106%. Specifically, the autumn vegetable cultivation covered 17,439 hectares, with potatoes, onions, and carrots leading the way. The winter crops accounted for 19,386 hectares, with potatoes and onions being the primary focus. Meanwhile, spring crops spanned 14,248 hectares, continuing the trend of robust agricultural output. As for summer cultivation, it commenced on 5,636 hectares, which represents 59% of the planned area. The regional agricultural authority attributes these successful outcomes to the dedication of farmers and the effective support measures implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders. Continuous technical assistance and monitoring efforts are being pursued to ensure a stable supply of high-quality vegetables to the markets.
