Transforming the Economic Landscape of Casablanca-Settat
A significant industrial initiative has been launched in the Casablanca-Settat region, which is poised to reshape the economic dynamics of Morocco's economic capital. In early March, local authorities signed several agreements to establish three new industrial zones covering approximately 1,100 hectares, primarily located between Mohammedia and the Benslimane province. The primary objective of this development is to address the increasing pressure from investors seeking land to set up factories, logistical platforms, or production centers.
Strategic Development to Meet Industrial Demand
Specifically, the largest of these new zones will be developed in Sidi Moussa El Mejdoub, near Mohammedia, spanning around 660 hectares. Two additional zones are planned within the Benslimane province, one in Moualine El Oued covering 350 hectares and another at Aïn Tizgha, which will encompass approximately 134 hectares. These projects are essential to resolve a critical issue that has arisen in the region: the shortage of available industrial land. Casablanca already hosts a significant portion of the country's economic activities, with numerous local and international companies eager to establish their presence there. However, the supply of industrial land has lagged behind the growing demand from investors in recent years.
The authorities anticipate that these new zones will not only attract more investment but also facilitate the structured industrialization of the region, preventing projects from relocating to other cities. Additionally, the impact on employment could be substantial, with estimates suggesting that over 35,000 potential jobs could be generated in these future industrial areas, particularly within manufacturing, logistics, and related services.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at reinforcing Morocco's position as an industrial and logistical hub between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. With its ports, free zones, and robust transport infrastructure, the country is determined to capture a larger share of international production chains.
