Overview of the Casablanca Stock Exchange Performance

On the last trading session of both the week and the month, the Casablanca Stock Exchange saw its benchmark index, the MASI, experience a slight decline of 0.61%, closing at 18,931.06 points and dipping just below the 19,000-point threshold. Despite this setback, trading activity remained robust in the central market, with a total volume of 580 million MAD, nearly half of which was attributed to Attijariwafa Bank, which alone accounted for 288 million MAD. Over the course of August, the MASI index demonstrated a commendable increase of over 6%, effectively recovering from the losses incurred during the previous two months.

Sector and Thematic Indicators

In terms of sectoral and thematic indicators within the cash market, the MASI 20 index stood at 1,362.56 points, reflecting a decrease of 0.28% and an annual performance decline of 8.55%. The MASI ESG also saw a decrease of 0.87%, closing at 1,409.94 points, with a year-to-date variation of -12.66%. Meanwhile, the MASI Mid experienced a minor decrease of 0.07%, finishing at 1,815.12 points, equating to a decline of 1.43% since the beginning of the year.

In the futures market, the contracts related to the MASI 20 exhibited mixed but overall stable movements. The JUI27 contract decreased by 0.72% to 1,351.00 MAD, while MAR27 fell by 0.29% to 1,353.30 MAD. The SEP26 contract saw a slight retreat of 0.04%, closing at 1,358.00 MAD, and the DEC26 contract diminished by 0.29% to 1,355.40 MAD.

Examining the most significant variations of the session, the top gainers included PRO, which surged by 5.97% to 1,296.00 MAD, followed by MAB with a rise of 3.37% to 916.90 MAD, and INV that climbed 3.06% to 132.95 MAD. ZDJ also saw an increase of 3.00% to 319.80 MAD, while ALM closed with a gain of 2.87% at 1,901.00 MAD. Conversely, the most notable declines were led by REB, which dropped by 4.76% to 100.00 MAD, followed by CAP with a decrease of 3.43% to 245.20 MAD, and FBR, which lost 3.23% to close at 392.00 MAD. ATL fell by 3.01% to 124.15 MAD, and SMI ended the session down by 2.82% at 6,900.00 MAD.
