Casablanca's Impressive Waste Management During Eid: Over 11,500 Tonnes Collected

Remarkable Waste Collection Efforts in Casablanca During Eid Al-Adha

In a remarkable display of efficiency, Casablanca successfully managed a significant increase in household waste during the celebrations of Eid Al-Adha in 2026. The operational report released by the waste management company, Averda, revealed that an astounding total of 11,577 tonnes of waste were collected and processed within just three days. This accomplishment highlights the effectiveness of a special deployment strategy that was implemented across the city’s four prefectures.

The statistics show a progressive rise in waste volumes during this festive period, with 3,300 tonnes collected the day before Eid, followed by 4,012 tonnes on the actual day of the celebration. The second day of Eid saw the highest collection volume, with an impressive 4,265 tonnes gathered by 3:30 PM. Such numbers reflect not only the joy of the occasion but also the environmental challenges that accompany large gatherings and celebrations.

Karim Klaybi, a member of the Casablanca City Council and the cleanliness contracts monitoring committee, commended the cleaning agents for their hard work and dedication. He stated, "Once again, the workers in the cleanliness sector have proven that they are the true heroes of this occasion," emphasizing the sacrifices made under challenging working conditions to keep the city clean amidst a doubling of the usual waste volume. Klaybi also attributed this successful operation to meticulous coordination among various stakeholders involved in waste management.

To facilitate the operation, a total of 3,200 cleaning agents and 448 vehicles were mobilized, including 148 vehicles from the local delegation and 300 from the waste management company. Additionally, four strategic transfer points, one in each prefecture, played a crucial role in handling the logistical pressure. These platforms enabled a swift transport of waste to the Médiouna public dump while ensuring a smooth closure of the sites immediately after the second day of Eid.

Overall, Klaybi highlighted that these impressive results are the outcome of a proactive strategy and ongoing coordination between the municipality and the waste management companies, showcasing how effective planning can lead to successful waste management even during peak times.
