Major Development in Casablanca's Regional Express Network

In a significant advancement for the future of urban transportation in Casablanca, the Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) has awarded Gidna SARL the contract for the construction of nine new railway stations. This project, with a total budget of 470.7 million Moroccan Dirhams (DH) excluding taxes, marks a pivotal step in the development of the Casablanca Regional Express Network (RER).

The final decision regarding the tender was made on August 24, 2026, with the awarded project divided into two lots. The first lot, valued at 214.5 million DH, encompasses the construction of four stations: Mohammedia Facultés, Zenata Industrielle, Sidi Bernoussi, and Aïn Sebaâ. The second lot, amounting to 256.2 million DH, will involve the construction of five additional stations: Hay Mohammadi, Mers Sultan, Casa Oasis, Sidi Maârouf, and Nouaceur Nouvelle Ville.

Enhancing Urban Mobility by 2030

Initially, these two contracts were projected to cost approximately 400 million DH. The execution period for the project has been set at 18 months, positioning it as a critical component of the extensive rail infrastructure being developed around the Casablanca metropolitan area. Once completed, these nine stations will integrate seamlessly into the broader Casablanca RER, which is planned to include a total of 18 stations across three lines, covering a distance of 92 kilometers.

This ambitious project is not just about building new infrastructure; it is set to revolutionize commuting within the city and its outskirts, significantly enhancing connections between major residential, industrial, and economic hubs. By 2030, it is expected that the network will accommodate up to 180,000 passengers daily, thereby underscoring the growing importance of public transport systems in the Casablanca region.
