Cegelec Lands Major Contract to Enhance Guinea's Power Infrastructure

Moroccan engineering powerhouse Cegelec has announced the acquisition of a significant contract valued at over two billion dirhams to design and construct a comprehensive suite of high-voltage electricity transmission and generation assets in Guinea. The formal launch of this ambitious project took place on April 18 in Kamissaya, located within the Kindia prefecture, and was graced by the presence of Guinea's Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah along with two senior government ministers.

This contract encompasses the establishment of extra-high-voltage transmission lines and substations, in addition to a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 50 megawatts-peak, which includes its own grid evacuation substation. The overarching goal of the infrastructure is to bolster and stabilize the national grid of Guinea, enhance both generation and transmission capabilities, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the country's national energy framework.

For Cegelec, this contract marks a continuation of its strategic expansion throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. The firm has previously undertaken substantial electricity infrastructure projects in nations such as Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Senegal, and Rwanda, while also delivering high-voltage substations and transmission lines in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This impressive portfolio has established Cegelec as a leading contractor for turnkey energy infrastructure projects across the African continent.

Abdellah Sabri, the Director General of Cegelec and VINCI Energies Africa, emphasized that the project in Guinea is deeply rooted in a commitment to the development of local human capital. The contract includes provisions for structured technology transfer at every stage of the project, allowing Guinean teams to gain valuable skills in high-voltage transmission and solar energy systems—competencies deemed strategically vital for ensuring the long-term energy autonomy of the host country.

This contract award highlights the expanding commercial influence of Morocco's engineering and industrial services sector. Cegelec, as a subsidiary of VINCI Energies, operates as a fully Moroccan-headquartered organization and boasts a diverse portfolio that spans energy infrastructure, industrial installations, and digital systems. Its ability to successfully compete for and execute multi-billion-dirham contracts across various continents serves as a testament to the remarkable progress and maturity that Morocco's engineering industry has achieved over the past two decades.
