The Moroccan Embassy in Nouakchott recently commemorated the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's ascension to the throne with a grand celebration hosted at the ambassador's residence. The event featured an official speech highlighting the significant achievements made under the reign of King Mohammed VI across various sectors, alongside artistic performances that showcased Moroccan culture.
In his address, Moroccan Ambassador Hamid Chbar emphasized that this celebration represents a national milestone where Moroccans reflect on a long journey of accomplishments and steady progress toward a promising future. He noted that it is also an occasion to honor the deep cultural roots and authenticity of Morocco, founded on the enduring bond between the Moroccan people and the Alaouite throne throughout centuries.
Ambassador Chbar underscored that this moment serves as a reminder of over a quarter-century of progress, during which the kingdom has achieved remarkable milestones that are unmistakable. These achievements have been pivotal in addressing the challenges of economic, social, scientific, cultural, and sports development while safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation.
He further highlighted that the accomplishments have positioned Morocco among the distinguished countries economically and have enhanced its political and diplomatic influence in both regional and international contexts. Chbar praised Moroccan diplomacy for its efforts that have led to a global consensus regarding the legitimacy of Morocco's stance on its territorial integrity, particularly noting the UN resolution passed in 2025 that reaffirmed Morocco's position on the Sahara.
During his speech, Chbar also discussed Morocco's transformation in the industrial and production sectors, noting that the country now leads Africa in various industries, surpassing several traditional competitors. He pointed out that Morocco has become the foremost producer and exporter of automobiles and aircraft parts, with industrial exports reaching approximately 40% of total exports by 2025.
Additionally, he highlighted that Morocco has emerged as the top African destination for tourists, with nearly 20 million visitors in 2025, enabling the country to achieve a growth rate of 14% compared to the previous year. Chbar elaborated on the significant advancements in sports, which are a result of the developmental leap across various sectors, particularly mentioning that Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
He also emphasized the strong fraternal relationship between Morocco and Mauritania, rooted in bonds of brotherhood, shared religion, language, history, and common destiny, all grounded in mutual respect and a sincere desire for fruitful and constructive cooperation aimed at building an integrated partnership.
During the festive event, an exhibition was held showcasing portraits of the sultans and kings who have ascended the Alaouite throne over the past four centuries. The celebration was attended by a number of dignitaries, including Mauritania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk, Minister of Higher Education, Yacoub Ould Amin, Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Zainab Ahmednah, and various ambassadors, parliamentarians, and members of the media, along with the Moroccan community in Nouakchott.
