Celebrating Contemporary Circus: An Artistic Showcase in Marrakech

A Vibrant Artistic Initiative in Marrakech

According to a statement received by Le360, an exciting artistic event organized by the "Collectif Éclats de Lune" in partnership with the "نجوم جامع الفنا" cultural center and the French Institute in Marrakech is set to take place. This initiative aims to create a space for artistic exchange and openness to contemporary circus experiences, while also highlighting the unique cultural identity of Marrakech, a city rich in traditions of entertainment, street arts, and storytelling.

Promoting Contemporary Circus in Morocco and Africa

The current edition of the event seeks to affirm the presence of contemporary circus in Morocco and Africa, encouraging international cultural collaborations and supporting artistic creativity. Furthermore, it aims to initiate a professional discussion on the prospects of developing this art form across the African continent, particularly with the participation of artists and troupes from Burkina Faso, which is recognized as one of Africa's key hubs for contemporary circus arts.

The program includes a variety of artistic performances designed for audiences aged 12 and above. On Friday, May 29, the French Institute in Marrakech will host the performance titled "Souffle" by the Burkinabe troupe "Dafra." This acrobatic work combines circus art and choreography to shed light on the violence and conflicts affecting children, using physical language to convey themes of resistance, hope, and the pursuit of freedom.

On the following day, the French Institute will present the artistic show "Journey" by the troupe "Tador," featuring artists from Morocco, France, and Guinea. This mesmerizing performance narrates the journeys of four performers between Africa and Europe through dance and acrobatic movements, exploring questions of identity, migration, and the quest for freedom within a dynamic and poetic scenography.

The event will culminate on Sunday, May 31, at the "نجوم جامع الفنا" center, part of the Ali Zaoua Foundation, with the free performance "Sucré Cocktail Contemporain" by the troupe "Colokolo." This show offers a collective experience that emphasizes movement harmony and team spirit.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Communication, along with various cultural and artistic partners invested in the development of circus arts in Morocco and Africa, supports this event.
