Celebrating Inclusion: Highlights from Morocco's Sports Cup for Athletes with Disabilities

A Thrilling Showcase of Athletic Talent

On Saturday, the Ibn Yassine hall in Rabat became the epicenter of an inspiring display of athletic prowess as it hosted the finals of the 2024-2025 sports season, organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPSH). This event reaffirmed the continuous growth and evolution of sports disciplines catering to individuals with disabilities in Morocco, showcasing the nation's commitment to inclusivity and athletic excellence.

The finals brought together a variety of sports, including amputee football, deaf football, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair basketball, all within a single day. This innovative approach has become a cherished tradition that not only highlights the remarkable performances of the athletes but also signifies the federation's determination to further promote inclusive sports across the country.

Outstanding Performances and Competitive Spirit

The finals did not disappoint, delivering thrilling matches filled with competitive spirit and exceptional talent. In the sitting volleyball category, the Salé Sports Association (ASS) for persons with disabilities emerged victorious, decisively defeating the Témara Association in a clean sweep of three sets to zero, thereby claiming the prestigious trophy.

In the deaf football category, the Mohammedia Sports Club for the Deaf showcased their skills in a fiercely contested final against the Tangier Union of Deaf Sports, winning with a close score of 3-2. Meanwhile, the amputee football final saw the Fès Sons Association dominate their match against the Tangier Sports Union, winning 3-0 and demonstrating their strategic prowess on the field.

Wheelchair basketball also provided a spectacular finale, where the Abnae Al Boughaz Sports Club from Tangier secured a decisive victory over the Souss Handisport Association from Agadir with a score of 49-34, solidifying their position as the national champions.

During this momentous occasion, Hamid El Aouni, the president of the FRMSPSH, expressed his satisfaction with the organizational and technical success of the event. He emphasized that consolidating the finals of various disciplines into one event has become an essential gathering that collectively honors athletes, recognizes their achievements, and enhances the visibility of different Paralympic sports.

El Aouni also highlighted Morocco's significant advancements in developing sports for persons with disabilities, both in terms of organization and performance. This progress is set to be tested in upcoming international events, including the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship scheduled in Canada this September, followed by the Amputee Football World Championship in Mexico this November.

The trophy presentation ceremony was graced by the presence of the State Secretary for Social Integration, Abdeljabar Rachidi, along with numerous notable figures from the national sports movement, lending an institutional significance to this day that resonates with the aspirations of inclusive sports in Morocco.

Ultimately, beyond the competitive results, the Cup of the Throne has underscored the fact that sports serve as one of the most powerful vehicles for integration, equal opportunities, and social cohesion. This victory transcends the realm of competition, embodying the core values of the Kingdom.
